Hey everyone, i have 2 large ponds in my garden, full of tadpoles and was thinking...would it be alright to put a few in my community 180 litre? just to raise them and then release of course!

Sounds noobish but im no expert on amphibians lol.

I would imagine the temperatures may cause a stumbling block, unless u live somewhere really hot so ur native frogs are tropical, in that case lucky you. Otherwise it may just be that they will be eaten unless they are already of a decent size, and depending on the fish size in the tank

hey thanks for your reply. No i live in Ireland lol, so self-explanetry! they're from the common frog! and they are a decent size! looks like on average around 1.5 inches! sure i dont have any fish that could swallow them!

but yeah was worried it would be to warm for them! my tank is 24 degrees celcius!

would it be too warm for them? even with a slow introduction??

I got some in my community tank a few years back.... did quite well lol. ate all my algae, and then moved onto bloodworms. I had one of those floating island things for them to climb onto when they were little froggies...

if you have small enough fish, then it should be fine.

if theyre omnivores theyre probs a diff species than mine!

I'm certainly no expert but i would imagine that the temps wont kill the tadpoles in the short term. If they are kept in it too long however u m ight get some long term damage.

just the common frog lol... when the tadpoles are young, they eat algae then as they're about to change they move onto meatier foods and stay like that lol

KK well im leaving a floating thermometer in the pond theyre in and will take readings early in the day/ midday/ and late evening and get the average then compare to my tank to see if theyre is a big differance!

if the differance is too big then theyre staying in the pond!

just wud be gr8 fun to properly watch them develop ::

i found some frog eggs or frogspawn in early march in shallow margins of a local fishing pit. I decided to bring some home to give them more of a chance of survival and to eventually move them into my pond when frogs. Ever since i brought them home i left them in a plain plastic tank ( i use this as a hospital tank for my two tropical freshwater tanks). I took some water from the pond where i found them and filled it with water from my pond. I watched them change into big tadpoles which i still have today and are growing larger. I've took many pictures of their development too to observe it all which i may upload on here when i have the time. By doing this i've still managed to see their interesting development. I personally think moving them into a tropical community tank you could take some risks especially if there's plenty of fish around, yet if you have large fish or goldfish in your pond your tadpoles may have more chance of surviving in an un natural environment. Oh and the temperature thing is a good idea, but with any temperature vary you should move your tadpoles to an empty tank (make sure lids on!) and adding very slightly warmer water each day by changing the large percentage of pond water at the start, then adding more tank water each day until it is the opposite way round.Hope this helps! if still unsure jus PM me!

I've kept tadpoles in my tanks with no problem. Inculding: Bullfrogs, Leporad frogs, and Spotted frogs. I feed them Algea discs. My tank temp on Average is around 79 degrees
