I am giving away my lizard and want some fish. I want easy-to-care-for fish but interesting ones. I found some sharks at Wall-Mart and like them a lot. I think they are called Balla Sharks they are Grey with dark black stripes on their body and their fins, and mouth are tipped black also. They get to about 8-9inches long I think. They are really interesting they are fresh water sharks they live in groups or that is how they are housed at wall-mart I am really wanting to get some I think my tank is big enough it is 15gallon wide and long and 30gallon tall. any help would be appreciated.

More likely bala's get to a foot long (about 30cm) or slighlty longer. How can your tank be 15 gallons wide and 30 gallons tall? I'm confused edit--- measurements in length, width(front of tank to the back of tank), and height This post has been edited by kj23502: May 30 2008, 03:24 PM |

Ok... never go to wall mart to buy fish its dreadfull. Find where your LFS (local fish shop) is. Balla sharks/silver sharks grow a bit bigger than 8-9" about 10-12" and they need a fast current and secure lid as they like to jump.
How big is your aquarium? Is it cycling? Have you got all the stuff like heaters, filter, gravel ornaments, de-chorinator? Tom. |

Yea...what Fish123fish said...READ this on fishless cycling
When you clean your lizard tank out, do not use any soaps or detergents. Traces of that left behind will kill fish. Have you had fish before? It sounds like you might not have much experience? Let us know how much to help |

Oh and
One thing unless you know for 100% the info a fish place employee gives is accurate DON'T listen to them. Hold off and ask more knowledgeable people first. The employees don't always know much and in some cases will tell you whatever you want to hear to make a sale....unfortunately |

56l huh erm how many gallons is that?
Well I know it is not that big a tank so I think its better sticking to smaller fish. The said that it had a fast current. That would mean that Danios possibly for the upper section and tetras for the middle section and some corrys for the lower section. |

I have a 56 liter aquarium with a fast current. Any suggestions? That's about 15 us gallons. that's not a whole lot of room to work with. Read this It's recommendations for a 10 gallon, which would work for a 15 gallon, as well 56l huh erm how many gallons is that? I just open a new window and type 56 liters to gallons in the google search box and it brings it up for me in seconds I've come to the conclusion that it's about 1/3 of the literage... example. 90 liters is actually 24 gallons....so it's a tad less than a third of the literage b/c a third of 90 is 30. I don't like clicking on that b/c it takes away the current page. If it opened a separate box, that would be better. I guess I could have it up in another window! Thanks!!

I am looking for some advise on what type of fish to get as tank mates for what I currently have. I have a 55 gallon tank (48 inches long x 12.5 inches wide x 21 inches high). In it, I have the following fish:
3 Leopard Danio's 2 Clown Loaches 2 Dwarf Honey Gourami's 1 Bristle Nose Pleco 1 Albino Cory 1 Emerald Cory My setup consists of: 1x HOB Bio System Power Filter & Oxy Surface Skimmer It is rated for up to 75 gallons and has a surface skimmer as well. 1x Air Pump with a sponge filter 1x Maxi-Jet 1200 Powerhead. 1x 65 gallon heater Eco-Complete Substrate 8 medium - large plastic plants 1 cave area (Loaches seem to have claimed it as they hide in there all the time except for at night) 4 lbs. of African Driftwood. My water parameters are all very good(Nitrite, Nitrate, and Ammonia at or nearly 0), except for my pH. I am still having to bring it down from 8.0+. I used some Proper pH 7.0 to try and get it lower but I do not want to have to do that all the time so I am just going to work with it to get it down lower. I also have about 4 lbs. of African Driftwood in it as well. I also do weekly 15-20% water changes. I also have 2 other tanks that are used for spare/emergency tanks. They are a 20g and 30g with the proper HOB filters for them. Anyways, I just figured I would give my current setup so more suggestions would be more catered towards my current tank and its inhabitants. I have been keeping fish for about 2 years and want to get into some larger and vibrant fish. I have been looking towards Angel Fish, Discus, or Black Ghost Knife Fish but I am not sure if my tanks are large enough to house them properly. My tank setup does not matter to me as far as how I have to have it set. It has had live plants in it and I am not sure if I want to try my hand at live plants again as they died from having the roots eaten up by some mollies I had in it a while ago. Any suggestions on what would be a good fit for my tank? If I had to get rid of any fish to make room for new ones, the 3 danio's could be moved to another tank or sold. Not really attached to them. Thanks in advance! |

tenke56 i would advise you to get more Danios and Loaches, stock your Leopard Danios up to 10 and the Clown Loaches to 5. So id get another 7 Danios and 3 more Loaches. This is because Danios are a schooling species and like to be kept in groups 3 is too few and the Loaches also like to be kept in small groups.
