I came home today to a heaping helping of bad news...Shatner has developed finrot, and I have bunches of little baby snails in my tank! Along with the snails there are all these little spots on the inside of the tank...Maybe eggs? They look like hard water stains...but on the inside of the tank.

the snails look like this:

What sort of snail is it? And how should I get rid of them?

I'm going to start treating Shatner with Melafix, and I need to know...Should I remove my snail and Oto from the tank? Or treat them too, because they've been exposed.

Most medication isn't good for inverts so I'd take your snail out. Maybe the otto as well.. not sure how they are w/ meds, but I've heard that they're kinda sensitive fish? not too sure though.

As for the pest snails... just pick them out. I haven't had this problem though *knocks on wood* so not sure how to get rid of them permanantly other than a full break down and cleaning.

Well...I figured my snail wouldn't do so hot with the meds..however...Seeming as the oto has been exposed to it...wouldn't it make sense to treat him as well? So he doesn't just bring it back?

Lol I dunno. Like I said, I'm not sure how sensitive otos are so not sure how well they do w/ meds. Sorry I can't be more help! Have you posted this in the emergency section?
