Lately I've seen tons of topics asking about small plecos. So, I decided to compile a short list of plecos that are under 8". I got all of this info from planet catfish. These are just the most commonly viewed Loricariidae species from planet catfish. They are by no means a definitive list or probably anywhere near that. Just some suggestions. Enjoy.

2. Imperial Pleco, Zebra Pleco, L046, L098, L173- 3.2" 80mm

13. Hemiancistrus sp. L128- 7.2" 180mm (Apparently some have seen this plec. reach 9 inches anyone else want to 2nd that?)
14. Tiger ''Peckoltia'', L002, L074- 4" 100mm

20. Spotted Medusa Pleco, L255- 8" 200mm
21. Dekeyseria sp., Butterfly Pleco, Flounder Pleco L052- 4.8" 120mm

29. Spectracanthicus sp. L254- 4.4" 110mm
30. Panaque sp. L306, LDA64- 4.8" 120mm

(If you know of any other plecos that are under 8 inches that I haven't mentioned, then by all means add to the list. mods please correct me if any of this information is incorrect.)

Butterfly Pleco, Flounder Pleco, L052 (Different species from the L168) 4.8"

I know there are several more but there are so many common names and species it's hard to find the right info. I think Blizzard Cactus Plecs stay around 5" but I'm not positive on that.

I feel we need too keep an eye on the common names - I've just seen the "snowball" in the list - unfortunately this is a common name for a few plecs - not to mention the LDA33 that can get to 12"...

Can we rely on accurate L numbering though ??

Sorry about that. I tried to ammend that as best as possible. Hope that I clarified it a bit. Common names are generally the root of confusion. That's why the L #'s are there. But then again, how often are fish misnumbered? Hopefully good judgement and good LFS's can be relied upon. confused.gif
