i was wondering how many pleco's i can have in my 40g tank, and i am going to put some clown loachs in there so how many can i have ?

I would only go for one unless you get the varieties that don't grow to over a foot long.

If you want some interesting L-numbers maybe try one Biggun like a Royal Panaque and then some smaller ones like Clowns, Flash Plecos, Zebras, Golden Nuggets and so on.

6 clowns in a 40 would be awesome! They are very social and it is recommended to keep a few of them, they would be so happy!
