Is a Bristlenose Plec the same fish as a Bristlenose Catfish? If not, what size does the Plec variant grow to?
I'm confused because I've seen some shops advertising them as Plecs, while others advertise them as Catfish Mj |

They are actually Ancistrus, which is a species of catfish. There are a few different types but all remain small and have a cute 'hand puppet' look to them. Every tank should have some of them!! Except african and saltwater of course!!

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the reply, as it confirmed my initial thoughts, but wanted to make sure, as I seen a BN Plec today, but wasn't sure what size it grows to. As an aside, I'm looking for a bit more of advice if you don't mind. I have a 3ft and a 4ft tank. In the 3ft tank I have 2 Clown Plecs and a Bristlenose Catfish, with the plan being to move the BN to a bigger tank, which contains Firemouths & Acaras. The 3ft tank is more of a general community tank. The question I have is, should I leave the 2 Clowns and BN in the 3ft tank, or should I move something to the 4ft? If I should move something, what would you recommend I should move? I also have Cories in both tanks. Mj Ps Looks like I'll be buying that BN tomorrow then |

The Firemouths and Acaras can be boisterous, so I would match them with a robust cat like a gibbiceps, who can handle themselve, the bristlenose are small and easily spooked but may be totally ignored by the cichlids, maybe not!!
