so i bought 3 pictus cats from the store & I can not get 1 to eat. It may be too late, but does any one have any suggestions. No, he can not go in my hospital tank b/c i finally got my syno eupt healthy & he is being quarentined for another week or so before he goes into my 55 gallon. I only have the three pictus cats in the 55 gallon. the one that is not eating is picked on a bit by the other two as well, if people think he is not sick i can put him in the small tank to see if i can get him to eat. water stats are all normal & the tank has been running for about 3 weeks, but i used media from old tank to start a new one.
any suggestions? |

try putting it in another tank and see if it eats. Bullying can sometimes cause it.
What are you feeding them? Try frozen bloodworms and marine mix. If it ignores that it is a very unhappy fish. |

I will try that tonight, i have been feeding catfish pellets, feeze dried brineshrimp, & freeze dried blood worms. |

try frozen foods and see if that works. Lots of catfish won't take dry food unless they are used to it.

They go crazy for live bloodworm - failing that (thawed) frozen bloodworm.
If it doesn't eat that, then something is definitely wrong..... I never ever freed freeze dried food. |

apparently, I have a very picky eater! I got all three if them in a feeding frenzy over the liver blood worms, thanks the advice! Has anyone ever had any problems getting food to other catfish w/ a pictus. My other tank will be shutting down next week and my syno eupt will be in the same tank. I am a little worried since he is specifically a night time feeder that he will struggle for food...can i assume he will probs get hungry enough and learn to feed when food is present?

Shouldn't be too much of a problem with the Syno. Will be a problem for shy plecs and slower fish.
Also, your picky Pictus will in time learn to eat other food as well. Try the Hikari Carnivore pellets. They love it and good alternative to feeding too much bloodworm (very rich). |
