Any idea what species is the "Gold Rainbowfish"?

I'm considering getting them as a dither and would like to check their requirements,...difficult to do without the scientific name. The fish is shown below:

Or is it a hybrid?

TIA

Definitely a rainbow.
I have my doubts about Glossolepis Multisquamatus because the anal fin is not elongated.
The head reminds me of a Glossolepis incisus. Like the one in the back.
But colors don't match. Perhaps a cross (hybrid)?

"Gold rainbow"... there are several gold colored ones out there (M. trifasciata, M. herbertaxelrodi), but they don't like these fellows.

Tough call....

No, that's definitely not a M. boesemani. Of that I'm 100% sure. ;-)

Thanks, all.

It was ID'd on another forum as a more or less common cross, it is even described in Aqualog.
(While the fish was pretty attractive, I felt like going with a real species, and ended up with Blue New Guinea bows.)

That being M. lacustris or M. praecox? Or perhaps even M. batanta? ;-)
There are even others which are blue, hehe.

M.affinis, these.

Mine are about 1" so there is not much blue about them right now.

I'm afraid you will need to wait 3 months, maybe even 6. At this time they don't look like anything much (1" TL, some less). The Aquabid seller has good reputation, so I'm hopeful that they are approximately what he promised, but I could not find anyone who got this species from him. I've seen photo's of other M.Affinis from the same source, and those were quite nice looking.

I'll post photos when they are presentable,...not anytime soon...

Cheers, Colin,

I _think_ you are correct. The fish was positively identified as a hybrid even standard enough to be listed in Aqualog.

I still feel a little sorry about not getting them...they were considerably nicer looking than M.Affinis I got for that tank...and I have not seen them since.

If anyone reads this old thread, M.Affinis blue is the fish to avoid.... My shoal is now 2 year old, no deaths or diseases, and seemingly happy, but getting decent colors out of them is nearly impossible. On most days "blue" is dirty gray, and the I have real doubts that the vendor's photo has any close connection to the fish he sells....
