Very briefly: they are brackish water fish and definitely non-predatory if kept properly.

Whilst they have huge mouths, they don't normally catch fish, and will only do so if at the brink of starvation. Their proper diet is a mix of plankton (e.g., brine shrimps, daphnia), worms (e.g., bloodworms), and algae (e.g., algae wafers). Given these foods they are totally harmless.

As for water chemistry, yes, they are sometimes found in freshwater, but they are rather delicate and short lived kept thus. They don't need a lot of salt in the water; SG 1.005 is ample (around 9 grammes marine salt mix per litre). As such, they are easily combined with livebearers and other non-aggressive brackish water fish.

They are territorial towards one another though. Some people have kept them in groups by providing a number of PVC tube "burrows". Periodically the gobies threaten one another, but no harm seems to be done if each fish has its own burrow and space to get away from trouble. Since they're big fish when mature (easily 30 cm in captivity) don't overcrowd them.

There's plenty about these gobies in my book and the Aqualog brackish book, so reference to either of those volumes will help.

Cheers, Neale

You've already got a topic in Beginners... Might have been easier to ask a mod nicely to move it?

Do you have any idea how rude and uncalled for that is?

What you've effectively done is to piss off someone who could potentially help you. You may be in dire need of help and along comes oohfeeshy who would be able to help you, only to remember when you were such a dick to him. Thus opting to ignore you.

Try to have some courtesy man.

See when i read the post that he left i saw it as rude and trying to be a jerk to me. I didnt even know that posts could be moved. All i knew is i was trying to get some good info because the internet wasnt helping and instead of giving some good help i was getting yelled at to move a post. I wasnt acting to be a jerk but more so to be defensive. and i apologize to anyone who saw it that way as that was not how it was ment. If anyone has reviewed my posts i am very humble when it comes to fish knowledge and will always be willing to here others input even if i may disagree. Being a jerk on a forum is not my style and a big waste of time.

I don't think OohFeeshy was trying to be a jerk. I think he was kindly suggesting that for future reference, ask a mod to move your topic.

But anyways, as usual, nmonks is spot on with his advice.
