Was browsing one of my lfs an found a Ctenopoma acutirostre (spotted climbing perch) in a tank with tetras ,The Perch was only around 1 inch long ,I have never seen a lfs sell one in my area so we decided to Buy him or her not surewhat the sex is as we are just reading up about it.
I was told that they dont eat flake food is this correct,we always keep an array of food in anyway as I wouldnt want ot eat the same meal day in day out!! so our fish dont either Ive got lots of blood worm krill pellets so hopefully it will like these?? -Ive looked on here and the net and it seems they will eat anything -Is this correct,As of yet Ive not seen ours eat-We have only had it just over a day so is probably settling in?. Im just after some general guide lines and tips to look after it. The lad in the lfs was very helpfull and knew his stuff.Explaining te size it will get to whanot to put in the tank with it etc etc We have it in a tank wih 2 clown loaches a feather fin 1 severum and 6 small angles(50p size) The tank is a 190 Juwel trigon I think this lot should be ok together, they all seem happy and have their own space. Ive been up since 6am watching the tank as I find the perch very relaxing to watch ,I was told they are shy fish but ours seems more than happy to look out of the tank at us!!.God knows what its thinking!!! I will get some pics up soon as we just redesigned our corner tank 1 week ago so no more ET in our tank-Nice bog wood sand bottom loads of plants slate hidiing places. We are very happy. We never really considered sand but since changing our tanks oer to it,We dont think we will ever g back to gravel,Its like a ever changing picture as the sand gets moved o shifts due to air bubbles or the fishmoving it.Yeserday we had loads of malasian trumpet snail tracks in the sad which was really neat! Sorry for thelongrabble just havent been on here for a few weeks so doing a all in ne post Thanks Antony & Fiona |

Cool fish you've got there. While I know nothing about them, I did do a little research and here's what I've found.
Here's an article by Neale Monks one of the members on here (nmonks) http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk/article_detail.asp?id=43 Here's the profile from the species index http://www.fishforums.net/content/Tropical-Discussion/41710/http-www-fishforums-net-index-php-showtopic-41710/ Here's another profile by Fruitbat http://www.aquariumadvice.com/profiles/6_37_en.html Here's an interesting thread about c.acutirostre, tank mates, feeding, etc. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showto...oma+acutirostre Hope those links help answer any questions you have. |

my pair eat pretty much anything, flake JMC catfish pellets, Hikari carnivorous pellets (sinking and floating)
they even eat algae wafers. they prefer foods like bloodworm, mysis, glassworms etc but it is not good to feed them on this every day. they also get a prawn/shrimp every week, much to their delight |

My two are in the big tank, so their staple diet is flakes, floating pellets and frozen prawns (occasionally defrosted). I am yet to see a food go in that they won't eat.
