Never heard of glafoam.
Don’t use peat in a Malawi tank because it will drop the PH and Malawis need hard alkaline water. Carbon can be used if you want but if you use plant fertilisers or medications then the carbon will remove them from the water. Most people just use limestone rock and shells to decorate the tank and normal sponges in their filter. |

In my Mbuna tank, I have coral gravel and a large piece of ocean rock. Good alround decor and Ph buffer. As Colin said, don't use peat

I wouldn't bother about the glafoam. Ceramic beads or sponges will do the same sort of thing and a layer of shell or some limestone in the tank will help keep the PH up.
