Jewel Aquariums, Stands, painting them

has anyone painted a jewel tank surround and stand.

would appreciate tips on paint to use etc

Hiya,

You could try finding some 'Colorbond'. It's a manufacturers brand, not a generic name. It is designed to penetrate into the plastic laminate surface of the tank frame and stand. It's not cheap, but then, neither will it flake off if applied properly. It is more commonly used to repaint UPVC window frames, and if it doesn't peel off of those, it's not going to peel off your tank!

ESP - used to prime melamine for painting will allow you a wider choice of finishes. You will need to use an oil based topcoat.
