wow, this sounds huge suddenly now..........I dont mean to doubt, but are you sure?
These are 48 inches X 24 inched by 24 inches...... Suddenly seems huge as the LFS said its approx 250 litres but it seemed slightly larger then what I saw previously and they were 215 litres.... Damn.............. QUOTE(Miss Wiggle @ Jan 12 2007, 07:33 PM) 119 us gallons lovely big tank..... get it! I had a feeling you would say that Miss Wiggle......actually had a chuckle in the store thinking this would be your reply........ |

Yup, sure of it. I used a fert dosage spreadsheet that someone posted on here a while back.
48" = 121.9cm 24" = 61cm 121.9 * 61 * 61 / 1000 = 453.5899 That's the litre calculation. Then a simple conversion to get the gallons. |

ha ha ha ha ha
actually i might be wrong about the us gallons, a 6'x2'x2' tank is 125g so 4'x2'x2' isn't gonna be 119 type in aquarium calculator into google you'll find loads of conversion pages to work it out yourself anyway it's a lovely sized tank, we have one very slightly smaller (it's about 18"w but other dimensions the same) and it's a really nice tank, pride of place in the living room |

119.9 US Gallons is what I make it.
It's a big square so the volume does increase a lot. QUOTE(Gandalf-LoJ @ Jan 12 2007, 09:03 AM) 119.9 US Gallons is what I make it. It's a big square so the volume does increase a lot. Oh, and I should add that these are literal calculations. So only accurate if they are brimmed which in practice won't actually happen! Though I'm not sure what the convention is for working out the litreage on tanks anyway. |

Thanks again for the quick replies.......
Yeah I thought so the same.......I've opted for 10mm thick and the the LFS Owner mentioned that I could potentially stock close to 50 small Neons and that size fish or else a reduced amount if the fish are larger. He did mention he had the same size fish tank at home. Only thing that worried me was that he said it would be alright to put the fish in after around a week...... As much as the price he offered, I think the one week deal is wrong. He made no mention of cycling etc......OMG !!! Thanks again for the quick replies....... Now as for the Canister Filter, what sort of flow rate do I need to effectively clean the tank per hour?? thanks |

Eeasiest way - 48 inch x 24 inch x 24 inch in gallons - type that into google.
48 inch x 24 inch x 24 inch in gallons = 119 US gallons. 48 inch x 24 inch x 24 inch in uk gallons = 99.6613262 Imperial gallons 48 inch x 24 inch x 24 inch in litres = 453.069545 litres You'll lose around 10-15% of that for decor/substrate etc. Filter wise it partly depends on your chosen fish stocking. 3-5 times an hour is a good base, if the fish need more or less flow then adjust accordingly. You can always run two smaller filters rather than one huge one. I have two in my tank (the standard internal and an eheim external) this also gives failover so if one dies, it's not a disaster. |

Umm as for failure, is this common? looks OK, size wise that's what you should be aiming for (as a minimum, you can never overfilter!) i'm not familiar with the brand though so can't say anything more than that. |

It looks very similar to an eheim, but not heard of that one before.
As for failure it's not common but I have had a filter fail so I'm a bit more wary than most! |
