I have a group of chocolate gourami in my softwater planted tank and one of them has a distended jaw and appears to be carrying eggs.
I have set up a small separate tank with water from the larger tank and I've moved her over. She seems quite happy although obviously she's not eating. If anyone has successfully raised any of these I'd love to hear from you,I'm assuming that there won't be many fry when/if she releases them and if they are typical of mouthbrooders they will be fairly large and will not have a yolk sac I've got decapsulated brine shrimp and frozen rotifers and cyclops available, anything else I need to know? The female is currently spitting out fry as we speak. So far I think there are 2,they have gone straight into the floating plant.I've got my camera out but mom is having none of it and is hiding whenever I get too close for comfort.I'll do my best though.Updates to follow.

Great! Congratulations! The live foods you have sound fine. I would start with the brineshrimp; that is mostly a big success with gouramis.

Well so far so good.
The little ones seem to be eating well and they are definitely growing.I'm doing partial water changes daily and feeding a mixture of microworms and newly hatched brine shrimp.Fingers crossed for continuing success: Can You Tell What It Is Yet?

That sounds very good, my huney gouramis recentley made a nest and the male is guarding it.
You will get alot of money for them depending on how many you get and if you sell them. |
