w00t.gif w00t.gif w00t.gif Hi everyone, I just though i'd let everyone know, I was surfing the net the other night and i stumbled across a new aquarium auction site, i think it is new and still un finished, as it doesn't have any auctions yet, but it is setup exactly the same as aquabid.com shout.gif .
I think this will be good for people in australia, as not many people know about aquabid in Australia, and alot of the auctions won't ship to australia.
I hope this site is as successful as aquabid as it would llow hobbyists over here to access some of the worlds top breeders and there stock, due to alot of the lfs over here have very questionable fish for sale, and we have alot of sickness over here as the salesman over here will just sell you any fish without making sure it is compatible with your other tank mates.
so i think god luck to them, and i hope it opens new doors for all aquarium lovers down here in oz!! shout.gif

Which state are you in?

I can hardly vouch for your comments of "Alot of Sickness" and the "salesman seling you anything". Part of this hobby is being responsible for what you place in your tank, and knowing what will work, NOT rellying on an LFS employee. As for sickness, every countries LFS's have ill fish, you cant get arond it. Theres no diference between here, the US, and the UK.

If this is your view of "Australias" LFS stores, you need to do some travelling around, theres some here in SA that I could recomend.

You didnt give us a link either. yes.gif

Sorry the adress is www.fishfenatics.com, and I know that there are some good shops out there aswell, I'm in W.A ad there are some brilliant ones over here, I was more refering to the quality of the stock, if you look on aquabid there are some amazing quality fish on there, and i don't know about S.A, but over here we don't see alot of that without a very high pricetag, there are professional breeders over here, but they are very hard to find, which is why i think this site will be good for people wanting show quality fish without havimg to pay over inflated lfs prices.
I didn't mean to offend anyone as i do know there are some great lfs stores out there, I was mainly refering to the smaller operators that are just interested in making a buck and taking advantage of first time hobbyists!
I've been in this hobby for a very long time now and I've seen them all, and the reason I think it is a good idea is I'm a breeder of a few variety of fish which are show quality, but people just van't appreciate it as they never sell for what they are worth, due to the crud that some of the lfs sell.

and also it is much nicer to buy fish that have been treated how they deserve, rather than the way they are housed and kept at the lfs

I'm from vic, I will check it out.

Well I have just written a post about the treatment of the fish at Pets Paradise, and how stupid the sales girls are, so no offence, but I think there are some poor quality and misguided sales people at alot of the LFS around here too.

I'm from Queensland will check that site out hope it does well. One of the LFS here is pretty good they have a range of fish and will order stuff in for you but there is only one staff member that knows anything about fish.

I wasnt offended by your comments BTW, I was just trying to point out such a broad statement like "over here
" (meaning Australia) doesnt accurately portray the industry in a whole, and it makes it sound like we get low quality stock, and no variety, with LFS employes ripping everyone off.

Id encourage the site, and hope it gains in popularity. yes.gif

Sorry that is my fault for being so broad, I'm refering to the big chains that are probably the biggest culprits, as there staff are severely undertraned and they just have no idea about fish or anything else for that matter, and the people that are just in business purely for the money, not because they are mad keen hobbyists.
For example my lfs in perth, was just sold to 2 guys whom have never owned a fish tank, no nothing about fish, and to top it of they ask the customer how much the prices should be, which is great if you happen to buy something on the day that the deliveries come in, as they haven't had time to miss treat them yet! shout.gif shout.gif
