Hi Folks,
I'm searching for ideas for an 8x2x2 tank - one of my ideas is a giant gourami - is anyone keeping one of these, if so what are you keeping with it, and do you have any comments / suggestions / recommendations? Many thanks, Matt |

Dan you do realise he is talking in feet so its around 200 gallons i think a dwarf gourami might look abit lost
anyway matt, i think a large single gourami would look nice you could have a few different catfish (syno's or plecs) and maybe some silver dollars. or some sort of LARGE dither fish. |

I agree, a giant Gourami and Pleco combo would be fantastic...
Something like a Sailfin Gibbiceps Pleco would be great, or even the bit smaller Trinidad Plec. Some Kissing Gourami might be nice too... |

A giant would work well alongside some other more sedimentary fish and dithers (big ones though) from the same sort of place. Maby Tinfoil barbs with a larger catfish or two?

Haha, a half oscar and half pred catfish would make an interesting feature though

To all you good people that sent me great replies, sorry for not replying sooner..... in part I had a change of heart and in part I have not had the time.
Soooooo....... I am liking the idea of the giant gourami, and a few tinfoile barbs - and a couple of pleco's and a few other nice sized interesting catfish or something. What I don't want is situations where I will be dealing with aggresion etc. I was at first considering a central american chiclid set up, but I've been there, done that and the territorial issues are soemthing that I would be weary of. Does anyone have any pics or know of any websites with these types of fish? I'd like to show the mrs. Cheers guys, Matt |

I agree, i thought he was talking inches, though it would be funny to see a dwarf gouramis in such a large tank. |

It would be even funnier to see an 8"x2"x2" tank, a dwarf gourami wouldnt even be able to turn around.

Osphronemus goramy, growing to a maximum length of 70 cm (28 inches)
The Gourami, in a community tank, will snap and charge any other fish which are small enough for it to bully. Like most aquaria dwellers, Giant Gourami will consider existing co-habitants as part of the furniture and so can be quickly raised with larger more passive fish. However, if other fish are added to a tank, either large or small, they might be killed within a short period. maybe 1 gourami 6 tinfoil barbs or redtailed tinfoil barbs 1 sailfin gibbiceps 1 ornate birchir |

QUOTE Maybe 2 trio's of dwarf gourami, my personal favourite, or maybe some gold or pearl gourami, regardless of the tanksize these would probably become food quite quickly. I think one thing that needs to be thought about is the fact that a potentially 2 foot long fish in a 2ft wide tank doesn't leave much room for other fish to swim past I'd personally go for something like a shoal of Pimelodella cats, maybe two senegals, and then possibly a gibby or albino common pleco This post has been edited by Davo86: Jun 24 2008, 11:42 AM |
