are ram cichlids (a pair of them) suitable to keep in a 33 gallon community tank that houses no other aggressive fish?

Depends, depends on what kind of fish you put in there, it has to be other species that aren't aggressive and also like soft water.

I had problems with Rams chasing my cory catfish, I moved the rams to another tank and no problems.

I put two bolivian rams in my 55 gallon and they pestered a green cory to no end.

They'll work with community fish, but make sure any fish that should be kept in numbers are. 1 cory will capture the rams attention, while 8 of them will quickly become ignored.

Rams are really good community fish and are not agressive towards other fish except for their own species. 2 males will fight as well as having 2 females....so they are better off by themselves or a pair on a community tank....

Also, Bolivians are somewhat more aggressive than German blue/gold rams so go with Blues if you will keep them with fish that can't handle more aggression. A heavily planted aquarium serves to limmit aggression, like that described towards cories, further.

Yeah a more planted tank will definately cut down on the agressiveness of the rams.

arent rams new world cichlids? They should be alright. I have heard they are pretty shy so u shouldnt have a problem

From my experience, bolivian rams can become quite agressive while german blue rams are a lot less agressive.

when the German blue rams spawn they become a bit Territorial but not what i wold call "aggressive" other than that they are great community fish.... to keep the chasing while spawning to a minimum i move the rock they spawn on in my tank to the corner... it helps keep there territory smaller and less in the way as when i had the rock in the middle.....
BTW size got my rams on DEC. 20th they've attempted to spawn 3 times.... there still young and inexperienced but i know soon I'm gonna have some baby rams!! |

yes i got a male and female and they are my favourite fish in the tank
they are not shy like i thought they might be and swim everywhere together.havent named them yet, any suggestions?
