I got some new Corys last week along with some nice dithers and a cool teak fish scoop.

The new Corys are C. reticulatus, sodalis, shultzei "gold shoulder," and bilineatus San Juans.

Everyone did fine but the reticulatus. I found out after the fact that they don't travel well. One wes in distress in the bag and died soon after placing them in a tank, I got 6. They got the least crowded, healthiest tank (microrasabora are there.) But 3 of the 6 died. All from travel stress. Three have settled in, and I have made arrangements to get more.

I have waited over a year to suppliment my San Juans. And the new ones are darlin!

I have several time lately seen one of the Corys from another species go over and try to "buck up" another Cory in distress. This little panda is one of the "rescuers."

C. simulatus, caudimaculatus are welcoming the new guys, C. sodalis and schultzei/aeneus "Gold Shoulder.


The "Gold Shoulder" is the progenitor of the so called Blacks.


Aqua dance: Gold Shoulder and sodalis. (The sodalis and the bilineatus San Juans are members of the elegans grouping, I believe. That means they are dimorphic in coloration rather than just size.)

They are all really nice looking.

The gold shoulders are not as nice as the blacks though. It is strange... as much as I love the blacks you would think I would really like these too. I really don't though. They are pretty, but they aren't something I would pick out.

Nice new additions. You did well. The only problem I see is the caudimaculatus in that tank... I think they would look better in my tank. Those are really pretty. I don't remember them, but you have so many that it is hard to keep up and remember them. I try though. You have so many that I really like a lot!

You need to do a journal of all your tanks and what is in each so we can keep them streight what you have and where they are... With pics of coarse...

Was it the heat that stressed them out do you think? I wonder if it's a good time of year to ship fish. But I suppose if you've been waiting for so long to get them then you have to take the chance when the opportunity presents itself.

No, Frank. It actually wasn't hot those days here. They flew in overnight and I had them in my tanks before it was 85 F outside. They had a cold pack and there was no problem with any others. When I told Bryan they were having trouble and after I told him I was not holding him responsible (he is fair and will toss in things along the way to help out), he told me that they don't ship well.

It always saddens me though that they will get all the way from SA only to die on my doorstep, so to speak.

It was stress no doubt.

If I can get bryan to hold the others for me I will, but he says he ships to India and Arabia w/o trouble. With overnight shipping, they reach here when it is below 80 F and are in my tanks before the cold packs get above room temp. It is just expensive, but it can be done. I nearly always ship overnight anyway.

I got that caudimaculatus last year when I got the green neons and the simulatus. That lady in the pic has become quite the looker. She is much handsomer than I was expecting. It is my understanding that they are not too hard to breed. Most of these are just waiting for me to get my breeding and fry accommodations up to snuff. I had one little fellow from a breeder and it took awhile to get him a family. He had been hiding when his tribe was sold so the breeder threw him in a package to me when I got my breeder pandas and LF pandas and LF bronze, along with some other remnants.

Who is the Big Girl?

That big lady with the new playful San Juan bilineatus is a C. melini. She looks big next to the youngsters, but in reality it is one of the smaller species. She is about 2" or less. But I think she is quite handsome. Her color is remarkable. She is spawning all the time but so far I have not managed to get any fry to a stage that I can identify.

I am in desparate need of a better system to get the fry from the net to their own growouts. I am losing them at that stage.

I nearly have it sorted. I have a tank prepared now for a group who are in a ten usg that will be a grow out tank. I just have to modify the filters. I alway over filter and that is also a danger to the fry.

I have three nets full of fry that need to transfer. They are getting way to big for the nets.

Yes It looks like. Good call. They are not red or infected looking or open or soar. So they will grow back. Maybe she tried to dig under the light house for worms. There is no rough substrate. Babies even grow up there sometimes.

Yes, mikev. She and her mates are with pandas, bilineatus, and skunks. They get on very well.

Nice looking corys Sue! I used to have a big sodalis, he was so big. Has been the biggest cory I have seen in person to date. Lovely fish as always.
