I have 2 red wag platys, a male and female, I am new to fish tanks and I think she is pregnant. Was wondering how you can tell the birthing processes has started?? Mine is having redish stringlike things coming out, is that normal?

Nope same food, but the poop has never been a different color like that. She was big and fat when I went to bed that night and when I got up she was back to her normal size but I didn't see any babies. The red strings coming out went on for hours (6+) and I read about the fish sometimes aborting the pregnancy but it never said what happens when they abort it. Maybe she was just cleaning out her system.
The male fish will not leave her alone he keeps chasing her where ever she goes. Is he just trying to mate or being mean? Do I need more than one of each? Sorry about all the questions, have only had them for a little over a month. Thanks for the feedback.

ginger, this is a guppy given birth for platies it's practically identical - http://fish.orbust.net/forums/index.php?ac...=ST&f=23&t=5934 platies tend to hide amongst plants when about to give birth and may lie on the gravel in the corner... Good luck. thumbs-up.gif
