heya

i have got 2 males and 4 female guppies that i would love to breed.
i know females get pregnant every 30 days or so, but for me this is the first time.

can nyone give me any tips
i have a fat female with quite a big gravid spot so i have put her in a breeding net.

can you tell me what i should do when fry are born?
should i keep them i the net, let them out?
how do you look after them?

any replies would be great
=D

Are these in a tank on their own?

I rear almost all my guppies in with the parents and dont have a problem, i just feed crushed flake food and plenty of live foods.

Traps just add stress to a fish and i only use then if i rearly need the fry from a specific fish.

If you do decide to leave the fry with the adults you should get a more manageable amount of fry surviving providing you have enough hiding places, floating plants work well

not neccessarily bad but they cause uneccessary stress to the female which could end up in her aborting and reabsorbing the fry, in my experience females do better when left in the main tank, just provide with plenty of cover and she will be fine good.gif

the breeding tras were excellent for me. and i have 30 guppy fry biggrin.gif
and still 2 more guppys to have there babies yet smile.gif
what i did.
was bought another tank..
bought a breeding trap.
but if i was you. buy about 2 or 3 breeding traps because if you have 4 female guppies.
they will probably all get pregnant.
mine did.
and for all my guppies i used a breeding trap.
and people say dont leave them in there for longer than 2 days.
but i left them in there for about a week?
they were finee!
right now, mine are in a breeding trap with the dividers out. so they have the whole breeding trap to theirselfs.
i feed mine once a day with crushed tropical fish flakes.
and i left the mother in the trap for like 2 hours or so. then put her back into the main tank.
they all seem fine.
some people don't prefer the trap though. they ay it adds more stess to the female.
but i have had 3 guppies give birth in a breeding trap and them guppies were in there for about a week until they gave birth. and they didnt abort their babies. so i prefer the breeding trap.
you can get a floating breeding trap. or one that you hook on to the side of your tank.
so it's really up to you.
i dont think breeding traps harm them. because i asked the pet store that i got the guppies from.. which we were planning to breed. i asked how long can we have them in the trap for. they said probably until they have their babies. but only when you think there nearly having them
