YAY!
i think my guppies are pregnant because i bought them last weekend. and i have 3 males in the tank and 5 female guppies in the tank.
already, i can notcie about 3 out of 5 guppies are starting to get a small belly on them! and for this time i know for sure it's pregnant.
im going to see how they go.. (if they get bigger)
the only thing im worried about is that i have a small tank and a breeding trap set up for them.. that isnt the problem.
the preblem is....
i want to save to save the fry.. and how many guppies can i have in the breedng trap at once..
i know you can buy plants for the fry to hide in.. but i have a small tank for them fry expecially. and i have spent all my money on that.. i gotta save up if i wanna buy plants and i still gotta buy other stuff (im 13 btw) Lmao. ok ok. so i want to save the fry but how can i when i only have 1 breeding trap and about 3 guppies pregnant. and they would be due roughly around the same day! i could always put some pregnant guppies in the smaller tank but then once they have had their fry they will preobably eat them.
and i might be at school at the time or asleep.
thanks.
ANY HELP PLEASE?

I would put 2 of them into the breeding tank and one into the trap. When they give birth you can take the mothers back into the big tank( a few fry may get eaten, but you should have loads). The adult & any potential fry in the trap will be ok for a few days until the other adults have given birth and then you can stick all the fry together. A few fry may get eaten while your away but you will still have lots of fry. Three batches is allot of fish.

Or even put a divider into the smaller tank to keep all the preggo ones separate

hmm.
so you mean put one guppy into the breeding trap and 2 into the small tank?
ok that sounds good.
but.
how long can i keep the guppy in the breeding trap for?
and..
if im at school or asleep and one of the guppies that are in the small tank give birth.. will they eat all of them? or just a few?
and..
what do i do if one of the guppies in the small tank gives birth.. where do i put the other guppy that is in the small tank aswell because she might eat the fry too. and would i put her in the breeding trap if she hasnt give birth yet?

thanks..
oxx

the mother of the fry has a hormone which is released whilst giving birth, and prevents her from eating fry so she wont eat any. ii have to juggle my fish life around school as well it gets pretty tiring

If they are pregnancy period is around a month i think, unsure.gif so if there has been no birth in that time then she not going to and can be taken out of the trap or small tank.

You will need to put a divider into the smaller tank to keep the other two separate. They shouldnt eat the fry unless they are stressed. You need to provide some plants or something for the fry to hide behind as well as some shade. i.e floating leaf plants or some ricca. dont place the fry tank near windows or busy areas of the house. This should help keep the mothers calm and reduce any chance of them eating the fry as well as giving the fry many places to hide from cannibalistic parents. crazy.gif

Good luck. good.gif

Look up on google hagen floating breeding trap. They are perfect. I have used them for a long time. It is ideal to put the female guppies in the trap when there bellies are huge, as this is a sign when they are pregnant.

You will get lots of batches of guppy fry with that many adults and you need to think about what you are going to do with the babies as you get around thirty in one birth. The mothers will not eat the babies for 12 hours due to the hormone I saw mentioned above and so you will have plenty of time even if you are out.
Putting fish in a breeding trap is dangerous and I always say to NEVER EVER do it because the fish get very stressed out and need to be as calm as possible when releasing the fry! It can even make them abort the pregnancy in some rare cases...Is that a risk you want to take??

Hmm ,
thanks for the tips and that.
atm i have a breeding trap especially for guppies cos on the bos it says
"breeding trap for guppies"
lol,
i think i might put them in the breeding trap for 2 days.. MAXIMUM!
smile.gif
the only thing is..
about 2 pregnant guppies will be in the smaller tank for the fry.. and wont the other pregnant fish eat the other pregnant fish's fry?
even if they do..
i will still have the other batch of fry in the breeding trap smile.gif
thanks so much! biggrin.gif
