I've had this guppy for 3-4 weeks now and i think she is getting bigger. Does she look pregnant, and if so how long til she gives birth?

The same female is on the left in this pic. The one on the right is also a female and i think she too is pregnant

Yeah, your guppy is definitely pregnant. Although I'm not quite sure of how long they stay that way, but your's look to be very pregnant. Expect some babies soon!! good.gif

Do you think she should be put in the breeding trap now, or is that too early? I dont want her to be stuck in that for more than a few days max

A guppy"s gestation period is about 4 weeks, I'd recommend putting her in the trap about 1 week before she gives birth.

What do you have in the tnak and what isze? If it is just guppies, i would let her birth in the tank, as i have never had guppies eat their young. I was trying to breed my own strain once and i had 1 male and 2 female orange guppies, in a 20g tnak with no hiding places. They birthed in the tnak. I had aorund 60-70 fry in 20 month;s tiemt aht were big enoguh to put in a community tnak set-up( around 1/2 inch). If not, a breeder trap is a okay option, but they do severally stress female's out. Also, if you have a spare tank, put ehr in it, until she gives birth, then put her back in with the other fish.

Your Guppy is pregnant, very rare for one not to be. This species along with many other livebearers can store the males sperm and have multiple broods from the one mating. She is not ready to drop just yet though and the abdomen will square off so to speak and become rather box shaped from behind the gill cover to the anal vent. At this point birth is imminent. She should be transferred to her birthing quarters about a week before. Do not disturb her too much as this is a stressful time for her and can lead to problems. Keep her will fed on a variety of foodstuffs and keep the tank clean. (no need for a substrate)
I too loathe breeding traps, better to buy a small plastic tank. (not too small) and furnish it with floating mops or Java Moss.

Thanks for the advice. She is currently in my Q tank as i had a problem with all the guppies that i bought from my local LFS. She is in there with another 2 females and 2 bn plecs. Do you think that she is likley to drop within the next few days, or more likely a week or so? I dont want to put her in the breeding trap too soon, but then i dont want all the fry to be eaten either!

Yep, you got a couple preggo's. They are both pregnant. I have 6 pregnant guppies. This will be there 2nd batch since I've owned them and they are all due the 1st week of January. I'd say yours, compared to mine, will give birth mid January. Good luck and congrats!

Well i got home today to find some baby guppies in my tank rolleyes.gif
I think the other 2 females managed to eat quite a few before i could catch some and put them in the breeding trap. So far i have 8. What do i need to feed them on and how often?
