Does the Fluval 3 plus and the Eheim Aquaball 2212 work in brackish water (s.g = 1.005-1.010)??

Cheers

All filters should work in brackish water. Check the thing is suitable for marine tanks, and if it is, you're fine.

OK cheers m8, also can you adjust the water flow on the Eheim like you can on the Fluval??

No idea. But why would you want to? More water flow = better. If you need to spread out the current, better to add a spraybar than reduce the turnover (which reduces biological filtration). The Fluval filter is certainly compatible with the Fluval spraybar kit.

I was wondering if you could turn it down cos I read on another thread that someone had an Eheim Aquaball 2112 with some Figure 8 Puffers (which is what i am planning to have) and they said that the water flow was way to strong for the F8s...

Can't think why. Puffers love water current. My SAPs live in a tank with ~10 times volume of the aquarium in turnover per hour and they're thriving. Figure-8s are riverine fish and used to far stronger water current than anything you could create in an aquarium. You're aiming for at least 4x the volume of the tank in turnover, and ideally at least 6x. So go add up the turnover for those two filters, compare it to your aquarium, and see what you get.

Cheers, Neale

Fluval 3 Plus = 700L/hour (It says max tank 130L) (9.3x turnover)

Eheim Aquaball 2212 = 650 L/hour (It says max tank 200L) (8.6x turnover)

Both similar, but confused why the Fluval has more turnover but smaller max tank confused.gif

Don't worry about it. Anything 8x upwards should give excellent water quality. By the time the filter has media installed and a bit of gunge, they'll be running at much less this turnover anyway. Stick a spraybar on to spread the current if you want.

Cheers, Neale
