He hasn't been swimming about much, only really to get air wacko.gif
He looks a bit grey around the face and gill area, is this normal?
I put some tonic salts in the tank and did a water change but it hasn't made a difference, the female on the other side of the tank is fine. Any ideas?

Thanks for any help biggrin.gif

I might think swim bladder...

not likely.... possibly, but there is not enough info to determine that.

water stats, how long have you owned the betta, tank setup, etc.?? The more information the better.

if there are probs, remove that female immediately.

pictures and detailed explanation of the issue are the two best ways to help your betta.

Right then, here's the pics

When I first saw him looking ill i did a water change and added tonic salts.

Maybe he's just lazy, but it looks more ill to me. I need some new test strips, but the water normallt tests fine, my other tank and other betta seems ok. The temp. is 27*c.

]

this is the female, she doesn't look ill

and their tank, not very inspiring i know, but i should be replanting it tomorrow with real plants biggrin.gif

any help, advice, suggestion appreciated!

You're right he does look grey around his face. Can you see if there is any kind of fungus in this area?

there doesn't appear to be a fungus wacko.gif do they go grey as they age? maybe i was sold an old betta wacko.gif just a random guess though.
I think i'll do another water change tomorow when I add more plants, see if that helps at all.

I have actually thought that a couple of times, but she has an ovipositor (i think that's what it's called). When she flares there's no beard bit underneath like the male.wacko.gif

yeah that does look somewhat male to me as well.

.... hmmm..... that could be old age... you're definitely right about him not looking right. If all the water stats check out, then just keep the water clean and at a good temp and hope for the best. keep a close on him so you can catch anything that may be developing early.

can males have the little white thing though? i thought this was just females wacko.gif

i find it strange that the male looks ill but the female is perfectly fine. i'll keep the water clean, see what happens smile.gif

unless anyone else knows anything wacko.gif

Juvie males can also show a white oviposter so it's not always a guarantee of a female.

Like you say....do another water change tomorrow and keep a close eye on him. I hope he perks up again.....he's such a gorgeous guy and not nice to see him not looking himself sad.gif
