I had a 6" Red tail shark for years and no problems even with a shoal of 1" cardinals.

THEN I added a shoal of half inch Endler guppies and a shoal of half inch platinum tetras . All 30 fish had gone after 3 nights of hunting by Red Tail Black Shark !!!

Nearly £50 or $100 dollars into his stomach !!!

I don't think 10 gallons will be suitable for that fish in the long run, they can reach 6".

yup as recommended above, 10 gallons is small for a rtbs. In the smaller tank any fish you add are at a much higher risk of running into his territory or just becoming a victim of boredom and aggression (death by shark). Id get a bigger tank, 20 gallons minimum id personally recommend, and then your options open a little bit more. Maybe rethink your plan about the new tank getting the betta and guppies, and consider buying a bigger tank and then putting the rtbs in it..
at that point return with the tank size, etc.. and we will be able to better help you choose based on the size.

indeed so, for a community tank 50g may be ok. but nothing smaller than 30g, has been recommended for these, well by people who know their stuff anyway. they only get to six inches, but the like to swim and can be a tad aggressive in confined spaces.
