It's my tortoise!!! (Yes, I realize I named the movie "myturtlemovie". My bad.) For size reference, the tile is 12x12 inches long. We have no idea how old he is (we're assuming it's a he). Bro found him crossing a busy street one day, he rescued it and it's been in our care for more than 3 years now.
His name is Cruiser. He runs at break-neck-turtle-speed Click vid link below, and turn your audio on if you can. The track is a children's song. And yes, I'm a retard for using that track on this vid. My tortoise p.s. Anybody know what type of tortoise he really is? This post has been edited by fishkiller_nomore: May 13 2006, 09:45 AM |

Wow, he's a beauty whatever type he is!!
I've got a box tortoise, they're really neat pets. She's a little gal though, much smaller than yours; only about 5" and captive-bred. She was 3" when we got her |

My best guess is a very dark red footed tortoise, Geochelone carbonaria but I'm really not convinced! Perhaps you could get pictures of him from above, to one side and from below?

Thanks for the comments, guys! Just to clarify before I get in trouble...we didn't pick him up from the wild. He's already domesticated when we got him. He'd let us pet him on the head and would come running if he saw any one of us carrying his food for the day. I think someone else had him as a pet for a long time, but somehow escaped and was running around on the streets. Bro picked him up as he didn't want him to get run over, it was a pretty busy street. Alright guys, I'll try to get a better photo later on. Cruiser's somewhere in the yard again So far, the closest match is the Geochelone carbonaria, but his feet doesn't have that red coloration to it. The shell's a close match though! |

how cute!
we rescued a red ear slider right after it hatched as it wasn't finding the lake and almost got hit. i felt bad, grabbed him and took him home. we had him for about 7 years til my mom gave him away to a little boy in her science class (she was a teacher). his name was tufton. |

Ooohh famous! You know, you could record your own "stupid" songs, but I guess that will ruin your opera career. Imagine, an opera singer (with a future doctorate degree, no less) singing "Eat iiiiiit!" ala Weird Al QUOTE(kairi @ May 7 2006, 11:52 PM) how cute! we rescued a red ear slider right after it hatched as it wasn't finding the lake and almost got hit. i felt bad, grabbed him and took him home. we had him for about 7 years til my mom gave him away to a little boy in her science class (she was a teacher). his name was tufton. That's so sweet of your mom. And I'm genuinely surprised at the number of turtles/tortoise that end up as road kill. I didn't realize it was that common. Anyhoo, new photos for better identification: Top photo: "Huh? What are you doing? What are you up to? Huh? Huh?" ![]() Underside: "Why are you doing this to meeeeee? Whyyyyyy???" ![]() After flipping him over, the battery died. Found him by the bushes the next day and took this side shot. Side: "Oh no, not you again. You're not gonna get me this time!!! Heeeelpppp!!!"

Hehe, love the captions!
Have no clue what turtle it is, reptiles aren't my thing. Like them, just never kept them, so didn't do any research on them. At least there's one subject out there where I'm not a complete llj I do revel, however, in my geekdom. |
