I'm happy today as i've just got the stock for my little tropical set up. It's cycled for well over a week, all tests back ok so we went today and chose our stock.

We've got 3 pretty neon tetras

2 male guppy (1 gorgeous blue, and a fiery red)

2 female guppy (creamy/orange)

and 2 khuli loaches, (tiny but gorgeous! one is stripey with lovely orange and dark stripes, the other is pale orange - both buggered off the second they were put in the tank!)

they've all been named: tetras - phil, phil and phil (as you can't tell them apart!), ice and fire for the male guppies, and mindy and dinky for the females, tigger and roo for the loaches.

the tank looks fabulous, i'm well happy.

Congrats on your new fish...
But without picking, your tank isn't cycled after a week unless you used mature tank media. Did you get your advice from a fish shop by any chance?! Read the info on cycling or otherwise you may well end up with no fish after a few days. Tetras aren't suitable for a tank this new either and will all prob die soon.
Soz to sound so negative, but get your hands on some mature media NOW to help!! Then hopefully all will be ok, good luck xx

But theres bound to be an ammonia/nitrite spike and tetras are too delicate to cope with it. Water will need to be tested every day, and prob a 20% change daily too for the next few weeks xx

ur tank is not cycled in a week unless u used media from another tank.

if u didnt use media, u will lose some of your fish , ur neons will probably die as they need a good mature set up.

u should read posts in the newbie section on cycling, oto help get u going.

what are your stats

ph
ammonia
no2
no3

ull have to measure these every day

im confused, you joined the forum on the 14th,with a coldwater set up, and yesterday added fish to a new tropical setup ( that was "cycled for a week") now without trying to be funny did you read any of this http://www.fishforums.net/content/forum/24...How-Many-Fish-/ (posted on the 14th) the very first reply you had, advised you to do a fishless cycle, neither are you telling us if you have infact used mature media in the filter, i wouldnt go adding anything at all, for at least 5 weeks ,and untill your tank is properly and fully cycled, most of these fish will die, if not all without a lot of hard work on your part, i dont have any moral high ground here, i have made mistakes of my own- some quite unbelievable, but if you ask for advise then please listen and act on the replies smile.gif

Well said shelagh, also, you posted yesterday saying you have bought another tropical tank with a crack in it? So have you now got 3 tanks? Are you planning on keeping the fish in any of them alive? I know its exciting, weve all been there, but you are just killing poor fish. You've got to have more patience and actually listen to the people on here that have made the same mistakes.

and not to be awful as i have been in the same boat, i had 10 tanks within 4 weeks of starting the hobby, its easily done, they breed!! anyway Les, please take it from one who knows, you cant be all things to all fish at this early stage in the hobby, put a hold on anymore setups, and concentrate on the more than likley problems that are going to occur in the ones you have, you should be thinking about stocking up with test kit, meds, planning your tank, researching the fish you have etc etc... and let us know how this tank gets on, we are all here to help and encourage you, not to be wet blankets on your dreams, but sometimes its good if someone slows you down a bit ,as when you are running you are more likely to fall smile.gif
