I recently bought a Arcadia Arc (35 litres) and hoping to keep a pair of Rams in there. I also want to tank to be quite heavily planted as well. I have added ADA Amazonia Aqua soil and also using 50/50 RO water in the hope of keeping the water soft. I have one 11W Arc Pod lamp but intend to add another, making a total of 2.75 Watts per gallon. Also intend to add small amounts of liquid ferts weekly.

Can some recommend some plants to keep in this environment? I hope to use some larger plants for he rear of he tank (one species) and smaller ones for the centre. I love the look of hair grass ... would that species be hard to look after in this environment?

Thanks.

I have hair grass growing in the same tank as yours, with 22w combined (2 11w lights). I also use CO2, tetra plant substrate, and simple fert dosing. Other plants i've got in there - Anubias nana, java fern, java moss, Mayaca fluviatilis. Here's a pic:

hope that gives you some food for thought

heres mine,

i have 2 x 11w and 1 x 9

you dont need ro with aqua soil, because it strips you kh gh and ph.
aqua soil's selling point is that it softens your water for you. my r/o unit is now redundant.

i had kh of 12 and in a few days it went to 0
gh 15 that went to 5/6

Thanks for the replies, certinaly gives me food for thought! Saintly - I have been mixing RO with my tap water, which is really hard - in fact it is off the scales for my test kit. At the moment, the RO Tap water mis is showing dKH = 6, dGH = 7 . The reason I bought Aqua Soil is to soften the water but didn't think it's effects would be as aggressive as stripping KH and GH down that far? I will monitor it over the coming days. Reason for mixing RO was also to maximise the life of the Aqua Soil as it loses it qualities more quickly in very hard water.
