I have 1 real small female betta in a 29 gallon with 2 black skirt tetras, 3 zebra danios and 4-5 rubby red minnows bought from walmart, now I know you are suppose to keep at least 4-5 females together so they don't fight or herass each other but would it be wise to put my other female in the tank? The other female is very small also, she's in a 1.5 gallon critter keeper at present time and I just wanted to move her into a cycled warmer tank.

i wouldn't advise it, even in a tank that size you could get problems. Is there no way you could get a couple more girls and put them all in?

I'll see what walmart has, I saved the 2 females from walmart about 3 weeks ago some of the smallest ones I've seen.

The bettas here are around 3.50 each which is very expensive to me. Last time I was there they only had about 7 or 8 bettas and at least 4 were floating in the water dead. I don't usually buy fish from walmart, which is another subject I won't get into but if I see nice bettas that look decent I'll pick them up. They do get some pretty small females quite often, or I'm hoping there females anyways, well if I see some I'll try and pick some more up this weekend. I want to get another small clown loach to go with one I got last weekend, he/she is only about 1" the smallest I've ever seen and the place has one other small clown loach and there's another pet store that has some around 2" so I'm thinking about getting at least one of those also this weekend to make 3.

It depends on the personality of the females- in the past I've kept only a pair together with no problems at all. It might be worth a try but keep a close eye on them and be ready to remove one if things get ugly.
See if you can find out what day WalMart gets in their bettas. My local one sometimes has batches that look fantastic, and other times half of them are dead, and I'll bet it just depends on how long they've been in the store. Also, clown loaches get to about a foot long, so even the one you have is going to eventually outgrow your tank. |
