That's right. I've got little white stringy worms. I don't know where they came from, they just appeared. Like 30 minutes ago! I don't have any fish, and I'm cycling the tank. What do I do?! The longest I've seen is about 2 cm in length.
I had a fish for about a day and a half. It died. (was cycling tank). And I put in a bunch of bogwood and plants. All of the items are from petsmart and petco. This post has been edited by Ilya: Aug 29 2007, 05:16 AM |

but anyway might be planaria, a sign of bad water quality, probably due to stocking a tank with fish even though it already had bad water quality.

It's totally white. I'm confused. I think I found eggs, although they might be from my snails. I found them on the bogwood today. Also, I have a algae problem.

I think it is a pretty common occurance when you are cycling a tank, this happened to me when I was cycling about 4 or 5 months ago, but everything worked out in the end when the tank was finished cycling I also think it has to do with bad water quality which you will get when cycling |

Where the heck do they come from anyway? It's virtually a sealed cube.

Where the heck do they come from anyway? It's virtually a sealed cube. not to sure where they come from, but they are asexual. they are quite interesting little things, they can be cut in half and then become two worms and then they will grow once you do a thorough cleaning of the tank after it has cycled they will be gone make sure you don't have any planaria in your tank if you are trying to breed because they will eventually kill all the eggs |

I had this and was informed that many forms of worm and larvie come from *bogwood* and *lavarock*.
Did you submerge your bogwood and all other real rock, wood and plants in warm water for a good 24 hours before adding? If not then i would imagine that you have some form of larvie from your real ornaments and plants. Some can be dangerous to fish so i would fish them out with your net and get rid of them before adding any fish! Actually may not due to bad water chemistry, these little critters will only hatch and multiply in good water quality - hence why when you add the bogwwod or real rock with their eggs in or on...... good heat and good water = hatching. submerge all real and fake items in a bowl of water near the same temperature as your tank and moniter for a good day or so before adding. Some people i know submerge bogwood and lavarock for 3 - 4 days before adding becouse of the little critters they can contain. Real plants, even ferns from pet shops that have been dried out can contain nasty little eggs! Hope this helps and you get rid of them. |
