Hi. Ive had my fish tank for almost a year now. Its a 30 x 12 x 15 inch tank, not sure what it holds. For the first few months the tank was perfect, but one day I decided to clean it and it hasnt been right since. The water goes very cloudy after a few days and makes it hard to see very far into the water. Its not dirty, there is no algae at all on the tank, but I cant get rid of the cloudy water. Ive been doing water changes a lot this last fortnight trying to get it clear. Ive tried changing the gravel, but that wasnt the problem. Ive added a power head, that didnt help. Ive got 2 powerfull air outlets in the tank. After doing some test, I found that, ammonia, nitrate nitrite were 0ppm, and the pH of the tank is 7.8. Im thinking of lowering this to 7.4 but I dont think that is the problem. I cant think of anything else I can do, the fish seem perfectly happy as there doesnt seem to be any problem with the water, but I just dont understand why it is so cloudy. I hope someone can help as I really dont know what to try next. Thank You

QUOTE(nat85 @ Sep 14 2006, 12:28 PM) The water goes very cloudy after a few days and makes it hard to see very far into the water. Its not dirty, there is no algae at all on the tank, but I cant get rid of the cloudy water. Have you been over feeding your fish lately? When my water goes cloudy, that is the cause. Cloud starts off milky white and then becomes green. Whatever is causing it, I hope it straightens out very soon. It is no fun looking at a cloudy tank! |

what is floss? Ive looked arounf the local fish store for solutions but dont recall seeing it. I feed my fish much less than I use to at when I first bought my tank. And from then since I first cleaned it, the water was perfect. I also had much more fish when I had my tank first set up.
2 widow tetra 1 zebra danio 4 lemon tetra 2 angel fish 1 dwarf gourami 1 chinease algae eater 1 Coolie Loach 1 Black Neon Tetra 1 orange fish (not sure of the name) I think thats about it. |

Floss is a piece of filter media that can be fine or coarse, fine is used to remove very small particles from the water, coarse to remove big pieces.
I had the same thing happen once when feeding frozen brine shrimp to some bettas, i over fed just once and i had cloudy water for days.. i eventually just ended up draining the tank and refilling with fresh water. |

Not that I know for sure, but a cloudy tank usually is a result of feeding too much or a particular food that is clouding the tank. Did you switch foods right before the tank went cloudy?

Ive always used the same food. And Only Once used Frozen Bloodworm. Ive cleaned the tank completely several times since it first went cloudy and no matter what I do I just can seem to keep the water clear. It is a real big problem. Im hoping that if I just do a water change every day for a fortnight or so, it will start to stay clear. It is just annoying that I dont know what is causing this water problem. I shall have to look for some floss tomorrow, what kind of form does it come in?
