They probably did the same thing I did, studied them in their habitat then gave caring for them a shot.

You caught a yellow lab out of a lake in America. A yellow lab is an african cichlid and therefore you didn't observe it in it's natural envronment at all. Let me guess, you have plants in the tank, other species not native to lake Malawi and are probably feeding it meaty foods such as bloodworm - therefore you aren't caring for it properly at all and I think you are sick and should be ashamed of yourself.. taking fish out of the wild just to commit them to a deathsentance.. in fact.. it ain't worth it. I don't belive ya anyway. All you'll do is google image some pictures of a tropical lake, probably in Korea or something.. stupid idiot.

EDIT - wow! page 6, looks like you got the attention you so badly craved.

Wow timmy.... take it easy now... most live bearers and fish from pet store like them are just cought out of the wild and sent to the LFS, so really although you may not know it, you are probably doing the same thing he is except he is skipping the middle man and not exposing the fish to any horrible conditions that places like Walmart do.... I mean if this guy has a big tank and sufficient food and some cycled filter media, whats the problem...?

Now I don't necessiarly think anyone should be all bent out of shape here, but think of people who fish... they catch fish.... then the kill it and eat it, and he is providing a decent safe place for it to live... so why not..? Don't get me wrong here, I can see BOTH sides quite easily and I would have to agree with Timmy under different circumstances, such as if there was a very low population of them, but from what I understand, there are TONS, and I'm sure this happens a lot, all the time.... so all I am saying is, it could be A LOT worse off for the fish... maybe someone else is catching them a putting them in 10G's or something... but lets take it easy on him ok?

Ok, we were never talking about the yellow lab. So I don't know what you are talking about, we were talking about the other fish that I posted which is probably a native species, and he is thriving in my tank where I give him plenty of care. About the African cichlid I got, I put him in my Malawi set up that I started a couple of weeks ago, he was the first fish as I don't want to overload my tank, so no one is recieving a death sentence.

About you calling me sick and a stupid idiot, that is completely uncalled for. There are ways to share your opinion without demeaning or slandering someone. I am sorry that you have such a low self-esteem that you have to trash talk other people. I never got mean or nasty with you so I don't know why you feel like you have to say those things. You don't have to believe me. I am just trying to share something awesome I found with other people with similar interests. I will be posting pics soon and I think you should decide then if I have googled a lake in Korea (which makes absolutely no sense). So please don't respond to my post unless you can be civil.

and Chuka, I thik its good that you took it home, provided that there was more there! lol! the more I look at those Pics, the more I think it may be some type of South American Cichlid hybrid of some kind.... I'm really interested to find out....

To answer your previous question, no it is not sunday yet! Sorry man but I appreciate you sticking around to see the pics!! I will be on my way to the pond in about 24 hours, and will have the pics posted Sunday night. Thanks for everyone who remained nice, though there are many skeptics and thanks to all the believers.

Me Too! I just hope I can Fly there and see it some day.... Korea is kinda far.....hahahahaha!

How fun.... anyway, keep us posted!

Chuka..... now this may sound insane.... but no matter WHAT you post, there will be skeptics.... My suggestion, go to this pond and have something made ready to put in a picture... A little bit of proof.... like a little flag to stick in the ground next to it, so your not googleing a korean lake....

also, if you are feeling REALLY ambitious, and because people are SOO damn good at photoshoping little images in (such as flags next to ponds ! lol!) get some rocks and spell out "TFF" on the ground next to it.... surley that can't be faked.....anyway, as you know, I believe you, but all I ask is that you bring back some HARD evidence for your case.... then we can all see that calling out and putting down fellow members is useless! hahaha! good luck!

I measured the parameters of the water that he was in and they match my tap water.

I very much doubt the above statement..... huh.gif

Why do you doubt that, we brought every fish supply we had just in case we did find fish (ph test, nets, fish food, H20 conditioner, thermometer, plastic containers, crayfish trap, etc, etc)

The only thing I could test was pH and temp, so I did and it was about 8, just like my tap water and the temp was in the 80's. I should have said I just tested pH and temp, not all of the parameters such as hardness, etc etc. So sorry for the confusion there BigC.

I think, to be honest, it just sounds too good to be true...
1. this old man picks on you of all people
2. you actually listened, considering most people would have put him down as a fantasist
3. you actually went such a distance with no guarantee of seeing fish, rather then having him sectioned
4. you posted on here first, with no eveidence knowing you'd have a sceptical response
5. you remembered water testers, nets quite easily but no camera
6. unless i missed it you've so far not confirmed its location
7. i could go on...
I'd like to believe it and although i'm aware it IS possible i simply don't think your story adds up, however i'm finding this topic amusing and i'd love to be proven wrong......
Good luck, the best in fact only way to convince the sceptics, such as myself even with a picture would be to somehow incorparate a daily newspaper, headline and all into the pic....

I understand that stuff happens in life. I agree it might've been best to wait until you got pics ot varify. But excitement osmetiems takes the best of all of us.

If you say Sunday so be it. I knwo one thing for sure, you can always PM me the pics if this thread dissapears. I would LOVE to see it whenever you get the chance however long that may be!

oh same here for sure good.gif

i dont think he should have had to wait to get pics though. in a perfect world he should have been able to come and tell of his story and the skeptics would bite their tongues until such time as its needed *sighs* but i guess we dont live in a perfect world lol

anyhoo chuka, i hope you have a blast at the lake. get some awesome pics for us smile.gif

almost to ridiculous to reply to but im not in the best of moods this morning and this has really &^%$#@ me off. the yellow lab may be an african cichlid but if these fish have been here for a while then they have probably been born and grown up there. to take them to an environment that mimics where they came from would be an excellent idea. its a wild fish therefore creating the same environment you took it from is what you do. water parameters are different over there so surely such a sudden change would be more detrimental than allowing the animal to live in an exact replica of its home. it may be in a lake in america however that was that particular fishes home and was well adjusted to the water parameters.

then you assume he is feeding it bloodworm. just because he doesnt know what kind of fish it is doesnt mean that he is unaware of how bad to much bloodworm can be.

you are whats wrong with this forum. calling someone sick, a stupid idiot and a liar. i think it is you who craves the attention...why else would you carry on like such a child to the point of name calling. tsk tsk you are the one who should be ashamed of yourself. grow up, catch up to the others on the forum and then you wont look so silly

of and if it aint worth it, why did you bother coming back in and editing the post lol youre too funny
