Hi blub, it will certainly lower them! you may want to get a net breeder, or alternatively if you have lots of java moss or similar dense plants then you may get a few who survive? Or if you're really quick with the net and catch them. Good luck and keep us posted.

nice article and I agree for the most part, the only thing I would dis agree with would be on the first few sentances you say 2 males and 1 female. What I have read and my experiance is that the males would "mate" her to death with that ratio. I always have read and been told more F than M.

william. the first thread u posted on here had pics of platies and a female guppy. well its been a long time now and my female looks exactly like the female guppy in your thread. same colour and her gravid spot is pitch black like the one in that pic. i have had her for nearly 2 months now and i havent had any fry from her. all my other females have given birth. i know u know quite alot about livebearers. is she pregnant and how soon will she have them? she is the same size as the one in ur pic. thanx.

Just a quick Q...I've got 2 guppies who look to have been preggers fer about 2 months now and still no sign of bubbies, is it normal to take so long? I've read at some places that usually it's between 2-4 weeks, gettin kinda impatient and worried lmao.

Maybe I missed it but is there a rough estimate on long they are in labor? Went to work and when I got home this morning saw my wife had found 15 fry and we have since pulled out 6 more. She still looks big and square.

Mollies are a good beginners fish, they are not delicate fish and will handle a wide range of conditions. Although they will breed readily, so expect lots of little Mollies. Males can be distinguished from females by the anal fin, the males have an elongated fin called the gonopodium.

You betcha! Males are very horny and irritating characters when they want to breed, thats why there's a ratio(2:1 female to male) advised so females don't get over stressed. When you see him chase her, you'll see his gonopodium rise. At that moment he's shooting sperm her way to inpregnant her.
