I have now emailed my MP as well. Also, my girlfriend is at uni studying Law and for a seminar they need to prepare a protest for something, so I have pointed her in this direction and is now researching up on it!

Thats great news Adam, tell her to look at Death By Dyeing as a start for research.

Great Job Arfie! winner.gif
I haven't see any dyed fish for sale lately in the U.S. -- I wonder if it's been outlowed here ....looking into it now.
Anyway, your letter is bound to get the consideration it deserves.

I assume you mean my "mods don't care enough" statement?

If so, I don't think it is harsh, because:

* I've asked at the beginning of this thread if it could be pinned or moved or duplicated.
* Several members have also asked for it to be pinned.
* I have requested it to be pinned in the appropriate thread in Site Suggestions
* Another member started another thread pointing out that no mod had acted or commented on the request in suggestions, which also got no reply from the mods HERE

So draw your own conclusions wink.gif

If this topic gets pinned it sets the precedent for all other "let's stop fish cruelty" threads to get pinned, and considering the sheer number of such threads, that just isn't possible without us finding ourselves drowning in them. Sure, it's an important issue, but this is a regional matter that, according to a recent poll, concerns less than half of all TFF members. I'd wager that it hasn't been pinned because it honestly isn't pin worthy for the reasons stated above.

Found this petition and sent it in tonight. It deals with the same problem here in the states.

QUOTE
Thank you for your email and for altering me to ways in which this Bill
could be improved.

I have written to the Secretary of State, Margaret Beckett, on your
behalf to raise these issues and will write to you again as soon as I
receive a reply.

The Bill is in the middle of its passage through the House. It has
received a Second Reading (a one day debate on the general approach and
intentions of the Bill) and has just completed its Commons Standing
Committee stage during which the Bill is considered in detail, clause
by
clause and line by line. Next Tuesday, 14th March, the Committee will
report back to the House and any amendments that were made in Committee
will be confirmed, or deleted. At the same time this Report Stage
allows the opportunity to table and debate New Clauses that might be
added to the Bill.

If the Bill passes through Report it is ssent to the House of Lords
where all the above stages (Second Reading, Committee and Report) are
repeated after which it returns to the Commons (sometime in the summer
session) for us to accept or reject any changes that the Lords may have
made. Only then does it go to receive the Royal Assent, and become
law,
probably by the end of the year.

So you can see that there remain several stages at which amendments
that
achieve the sort of changes that you seek can be made.

I am not the right MP to table or speak to those amendments as I know
nothing about these issues but you can be certain that there will be
MPs, of all parties, who will be pursuing them.

I will write to you when I've heard from Margaret Beckett.

Best wishes

Mark Fisher

Yeah I was gobsmacked when mine replied as he's usually a useless ****, but that reply you have is very informative and interesting considerably better than the one I got.

Anyone else had a decent reply?

Quite suprised I receieved this reply today ohmy.gif

Thank you for your email dated 09 March 2006 concerning dyed fish.

Like you, I also find the practices of tattooing and dying fish to be completely unacceptable. I have forwarded your email on to the appropriate ministers in DEFRA. Thank you again for your concern and I will contact you again once I receive a response.
